Last week we saw how the Queanbeyan Tigers went through bumpy times and set about rebuilding to again savour success.

In the late 60s and early 70s the next generation of youngsters, Marion Borkowski, Renato Res and Ziggy Prykle had their impact and the Hopkins boys and Van Rakowski followed not long after.

The efforts of these teams provided a foundation for the Tigers more recent successes that followed as the club grew.

New names such as James Black, Tony Wynd and Paul Quade (as coach) helped to lift the club and attract new players and talent. The team went through tough times but by the mid 80s entered what the club describes as the ‘Grand finals years’ making the Grand Final 5 times, winning 2. Follow up success continued into the 90s and following 2000. Last year 1st grade were again the Premiers.

The Tigers teams today include early age groups where boys and girls play in integrated teams; older age group teams for boys that can lead them to senior grade teams; and teams for girls that can lead to senior women’s competition. In fact the Queanbeyan Tigers women’s team won the premiership in 2014.
